The Solar Industry Association of Zambia (SIAZ) has reaffirmed its support for the development of specialised skills in Zambia’s renewable energy and energy storage sector, following the endorsement of a new Standard Job Profile and training syllabus for a Lithium-Ion Battery Technology, Maintenance and Circularity Expert.
The job profile has been developed by the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) as part of efforts to strengthen technical skills and professional capacity in lithium-ion battery technology, maintenance and circularity.
SIAZ was represented at the recent TEVETA Endorsement Meeting, where industry stakeholders and technical experts conducted a comprehensive review of the proposed job profile and training syllabus. Following the review, both documents were endorsed with minor amendments agreed upon during the meeting.

The development of this job profile comes at an important time as battery energy storage becomes increasingly relevant to Zambia’s renewable energy sector. As the adoption of solar and other renewable energy technologies grows, there is a corresponding need for skilled professionals who can support the installation, maintenance, management and responsible end-of-life handling of battery systems.
SIAZ welcomes the development of the specialised job profile and training syllabus as an important step towards building Zambia’s technical capacity in battery energy storage and circularity.
Through its participation in initiatives such as this, SIAZ continues to support collaboration between industry and skills development institutions, helping ensure that training responds to the evolving needs of the energy sector and prepares Zambians for emerging opportunities within the renewable energy industry.
